Hina (AKA. Alice) in Wonderland, Pocky (AKA. Packy) Domination and a trap Maid Cafe. Perfect for the final episode of this season. (NUOOOOOOOOOOOOO)
Kind of like in the last episode of the first season, this last episode of the second season is pretty much like an epilogue of the events that had took place in the previous 24 episodes.
With the first part being an adaption of Chapter 147 (Hayate’s Past it’s called) and the second half being a total original story, where they parodied Pocky (the super named snack I believe everyone knows) into the shape and form of “Packy” -insert racial slur here- and Hayate tracking down a box, due to its popularity and being sold out in every shop. A first for JC Staff and their loyalty to the manga in this second season, being the first in the OVA they produced. That being said, now onto the summary.
After the bizarre events in Sakuya’s Birthday Arc, and of course the Hina’s confession to Ayumu, we now return to the Sanzenin Mansion for the final stretch where we already witness… that Nagi already in shambles. So after much consideration, Nagi asks Hayate to do something that makes her go to sleep, Hayate’s first attempt;
So Hayate reads her an obligatory story, Alice in Wonderland. -Insert book summary here-
FYI, this is the real story of Alice in Wonderland Lewis Carroll wrote that Disney and several book publisher’s decide to censor.
Hina as Alice ftw.
The Hakuo Trio as the Three Rabbit thingys… Kinda obscure if you ask me.
Hina totally pwns the three Rabbits.
Alice (Hina) totally out runs the ever moving ground…
She defeated all those talking plain cards, took over Wonderland and started a new Kingdom, which she called…
What a touching story.
Moving onto the second half, commencing an original story, Nagi suddenly has the urge to eat something what’s called in the name of “Packy” (AKA Pocky), and orders Hayate to go out and buy a box for her. Only to make this errand interesting, as Nagi correct’s Hayate’s necktie as he goes out, she implants a small camera on him so that she see what he’s doing while out. But since this is Hayate we’re talking about, the boy with huge amounts of bad luck pouring out of him, fetching a box of “Packy” will be more like an adventure than a simple errand.
Hayate’s misfortune only strengthens as he faces another dilemma.
So, thinking that he’d disgrace the Sanzenin Butler’s name and head back to fetch his wallet…
And so Hayate’s work shift time begins.
After Hayate finishes working exactly for an hour and claims the pay to buy the Packy Nagi wanted, Hayate is hot on his wheels to the nearest convenience store. That is, until he gets caught up with the shot- I mean Wataru.
Unable to figure out what he’s saying, Maria uses her Lip Reading Skill to decipher what Wataru is saying;
Hayate gets caught up in a Crime Spree.
After FINALLY reaching to a nearby convenience store…
Packy is literally sold out everywhere.
Coming out of the store miserably, he sees that everyone around him is carrying and eating a box of Packy.
Aika is still in her Yandere mode.
Hina munching on her current Packy stick~
Give into the Packy~~~
After receiving a call from Nagi telling him to come back, Hayate knows of a phantom snack store in a back alley that only a select few know about which would definitely have some left.
Upon arrival, Hayate finally spots the last box of Packy left, and just after he was about to go grab for it…
Oh god its the Hamster!
We all know now that the Hamster is one of the select few who knows about the hundred-year-old phantom snack store in a back alley that only a select few know about.
Thinking that this was for the sake for his dear Ojou-sama, Hayate decides to play the devil and decides to take that box of Packy off her, but just about he was to ask nicely…
Hayate gave in to the Hamster’s sudden Moé Level boost and looked elsewhere.
He even went to the next prefecture. Haha.
Maria and Nagi decide to call him and tells him to come home. But…
Hayate lost grip to his cell phone and drops it into the sea.
When an epic facepalm isn’t enough, there’s always the headpalm.
Since it came down to this, if you can’t get what you need, make it.
As he rushed back to mansion after making a counterfeit box of Packy, passing by the Loser Park, a soccer ball comes flying out and onto the road, inb4 picking it up and wondering who’s it was, a truck passed by and runs over Hayate.
Love how they had an ambulance capsized after bumping onto the crushed counterfeit Packy box as a symbolism of some getting injured, which in this case Hayate. But…
GOD DAMN IT HE’S ALIVE! D8
After explaining what happened (being saved by a soccer ball) and knowing all along that she implemented a small camera on him at the beginning, he finally give Nagi the box of Packy she wanted all day (I’m not even sure all of what’s happen can even fit in half a day).
So after a tough day of story telling and Pocky hunting madness, the day comes to an end. And while Hayate falls asleep on the chair when he’s supposed to keep watch for Nagi…
Nagi yet again gives Hayate a peck on the cheek. -insert wails of Hayate x Nagi fans here-
Thus ending the episode. Cue the epilogue insert credits.
Like I said in the opening speech, this really is THE last episode of the 2nd season. Meaning they has pulled another JC Staff. I had a vague feeling that this would truely end with 25 episodes since they started showing the new Opening sequence in the 18th episode, like what they did with Toradora! with the 2nd OP in the 18th episode as well.
Adapting chapters from Volumes 6 to 13, they managed really well adapting around 80 chapters and compressing it into 25 episodes. Since it came down to this I guess there’ll be high hopes for a third season in order, whether it’ll be continuing on where this season left off, or will be completely original, I’ll be looking forward to it. What felt strange about me watching this second season is that I didn’t feel sad or depressed when it came down to the last episode, where I did when watching the first season around the 40th episode, I was all depressed and unmotivated that I knew Hayate was going to end. Which made my 3-day trip to France the week before the final episode quite bland (Yes, I went to France and came back a few days before the lest episode).
Now with the second season now done and over with I can now focus on the upcoming anime in the Fall Anime Season line up, but my move for HnG will still reside in my heart =3.
I now end my final HnG Episode Summary post.
Update: Hayate no Gotoku!! Review in the works.
