AWESUM. TOTALLY. TOTALLY AWESUM. SO TOTALLY AWESOME IT TOTALLY PWNS ALL THE REVIEWERS AND STAFF AT ANN. Even though I say this liek every week this has to be the best episode yet!! Also the most parodied episode at that.
For those of you who’ve read the 2nd chapter of the manga, or even read a certain chapter in the Light Novels, then you would’ve notice that this episode is partly based of that. Case in point, in the manga (maybe even in the Light Novel to say at least) it starts off with Ken grocery shopping than noticing a “Seitokai no Ichizon” novel displaying on the bookshelf, then later on writing a novel for the purpose to promote the student council more widely. As in the anime (this episode), its been altered so its purpose is to compete in a popularity contest with the Journalism club via various media (anime, music, games ect.), heavily focusing on writing a short Novel as the medium in the first part of the episode.
The references and parodies are aplenty in this episode as the most notable parody used in this ep is the re-enactment of the climax scene in the last episode of Strike Witches, with Kurimu as Miyafuji, Chizuru as Sakamoto and Minatsu as Perrine. Which sums up the reason for this post which is called “Seitokai no Witches”. Other references included Kurimu an Ken indirectly referring to the plot development of K-ON!, and the whole series as a whole, the infamous Konami code played out and many more which I’ve forgotten at this point.
Observe the following the following screen shots to grasp what I’m on about.
The “Perfect” Strike Witches parody, click here to see a comparison to the original scene in the Strike Witches episode, as Sankaku made a post about it. Heck, even Studio Deen had went out of their way to work with the guys at Gonzo to perfect this parody, also gaining rights to legally perform the parody. Thus appearing in the ED credits. (no screen shot here, go look it up yourself =P)
An indirect reference of K-ON! here.
Screen shot #1: Of course, the K-ON! plot literally starts off with 4 girls starting out a band.
Screen shot #2: True, as many K-ON! singles has hit the top 10 in the Japanese Music rankings.
Screen shot #3: +Azusa later on in the second semester.
Screen shot #4: Azusa is a freshman, also a girl at that. Haha
Also in this episode is that they, for the first time, ACTUALLY GO OUTSIDE!!! Yes that’s right! They even had to make the door they were going to go out really dramatic (look above if it doesn’t ring a bell). But on the minus side, it cuts to the scene when they come back to the Student Council room, so the viewers (us) didn’t really… go outdoors to say at least. -sniff-
During the first part of the episode, its heavily focused on the 4 bi shojo characters inputting ideas and plot devices into Ken as he types out the novel (or light..) they’re working on, as ordered by the Prez. Which at the process shows indirectly their true self, which I will elaborate later on. If any of you people have read the second chapter of the manga (yes, its out now) it’s no different from what’s shown in the anime. Excluding Ken’s story, which is a little bit twisted from the manga.
First up, we are shown with Minatsu’s epic battle shonen story.
So this guy, apparently called Echo of Death, seems to be the antagonist of this unrelated Student Council story, is causing mayhem and mischief, which then to be revealed that he’s Ken’s Older Brother =0 Unfortunately that’s what we’re shown up to at this point…
Next up, Mayufu’s story…
Which is basically like some Yaoi doujinshi, throwing Ken, Minatsu’s made up character Echo, and this seemingly attractive shota guy which looks like a character off Negima! into a sexual situation. Which basically goes like this;
Prey comes home > Predator r**** the prey > Insert the most significant part of the doujin plot here > Sudden aftermath conclusion.
Lastly, Chizuru’s story.
S&M. ’nuff said.
As an extra bonus, Ken’s story. Guys. Get your Kleenex boxes out. Nao.
DAMN RIGHT!!!! AND I WAS SO ENJOYING THAT!!!!!! -3-
And about Kurimu’s story, didn’t really have one I guess…
This last scene made me lol hard. Thinking they’ve been enlightened and declared they’ll take the Student Council more seriously after watching the promo vid Ken edited to promote the Student Council…
The next day…
And thus concludes another epic episode.
Laastly, I’ve heard from a wise man saying that the next episode will be a Mizugi special? =0 This has got to be a dream. Anyways, looking forward to episode 5, which, in this posting time frame is currently airing in Japan =00
So until then~
