Summer Anime 2010 First Impression

Post came out rather late and rushed than usual…meh. Summer Anime 2010 had a pretty good hybrid start for me, with Yakuindomo, Mitsudomoe, Ookami-san, Strike Witches and Highschool of the Dead turning out to be top favourites of this season. But anyway, here’s my overall First Impression of this hot summer season’s animu.

Note: No screenshots in this post due to botherness level in uploading them…

Amagami SS

The only “normal highschool romance slice of life” anime this season huh… Well at this point of time, I’m up at episode 4 of this, and it seems to be shaping up well (You can read my full first impression here). Amagami seems to be taking the omnibus approach in basing its material off the PS2 VN game (yep, VN, not eroge) and appears to be covering the routes in the game into 4-episodic story arcs, presumibly focusing on one girl. Episode 4 saw the end of the Morishima LOVELY Haruka Arc where the ending skips 10 years into the futures and sees both Junichi and Haruka married and still “lovey-dovey” and Junichi as a failed Conan-wannabee. Thought Haruka’s Arc was all well and good, but in general was downright disturbing due to the clichéd climax in episode 4 and the many fetishes Junichi seems to have (Eyebrow kissing… back of knee kissing??). The opening can get to being used to while the ending, so far the first being sung by Shizuka Itou is absolutely godly. ‘Course I’ll give in to anything done by Itou since she’s the voice actress for Hinagiku in HnG. Needless to say, Amagami will be a interesting watch for the rest of 2010.

Asobi ni Ikuyo!

Furries aliens. Pure-pure main male character voiced by a woman. Heavy fanservice and cosplay. Obscured childhood friend that doesn’t seem to be concerned over the main character’s circumstance. Profit.

Still fitting into Asobi ni Ikuyo! after the first two or three episode leaving me confused as to the series’ purpose and the sub-plots. But overall furry-aliens doesn’t seem to be my cup of tea… But oh well, I’ll watch a few more episodes to gather my senses…

Cat Shit One

Can this be even considered as an anime? Since it’s animated in epic CG. Oh and pardon for the profanity, but it’s necessary since it’s included in the actual series’ title!

I instantly fell in love with CSO straight when I saw the trailer for this several years back when Rabbits risen from the horizon and started to kick butt with their military weapons and guns and grenades and stuff, and believe me if you’ll love this if you’re a COD/Halo-fag. The first installment in the series sees Sergeant “Perky” Perkins and his companion, Botasky, having sent to the middle east to retrieve a pair of hostages from a group of camel terrorists. Yes, it’s just what I said. The ending is obvious, so I need not say. Sad to realise the fact that the second episode will be coming out SOMETIME NEXT YEAR, but at the same time forgiven when you observe deep and closer into the animation, and the hours of motion capture and the RL motion capture actors used to create this masterpiece… but well enjoy your slow releases.

Highschool of the Dead

One word for this HoTD: AWESUM. I knew HoTD will be epic from the start straight when I heard that it’ll becoming an anime. Read the first chapter back in ’08 but never bother to continue for some certain reason so I just knew it was the one to watch when it’d be released. HoTD is filled with petty romances, jiggling breasts, your occasional fanservice, and ofcourse, the high-octane bloody zombie kicking-shooting guro action! Plot need not explained here due to being so memorable. Though however, HoTD is let down with all the censors censoring all the explicit gory violence in the television broadcasts co-ercing us all to buy the DVD/BD releases. But still it can be deeated with a little disturbed imanigation I guess. HoTD is the one to watch this Summer.

Mitsudomoe

lol. Lolz. LOl. LOL. LOOOOOL. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Literally.

How I cannot stop laughing my ass off on the floor while a ROFLcopter circles around my house when I watch this. The first episode saw the appearance of NIPPLES the hamster, second came the buckets full of Elementart School Kid’s piss, third came the suspicious fat lolicon pervert and fourth, the exploitation of a innocent 6th grade honour student. Original. If you’re a simple-minded peoples person and don’t mind immature tongue in cheek jokes and sexual innuendo, then Mitsudomoe might just be right up your alley. Obviously gonne be okay with this.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes

Confusing and mouthful name is confusing and mouthful. Despite me not planning to watch this from the start but somehow did after a misclick on AnimeSeason, LotLH turned out to be a pretty good anime. The plot seems rather vast that has many subplots that can be visited, main characters tad memorable due to their flashy clothing while the animation, by ZEXCS, is not that half bad. Despite still being on trial, I’ll continue for another few episodes whether or not I’ll drop.

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi

Well, if you want to read my detailed first impression and several episodic posts, click here.

Despite Ookami-san being one of my most anticipated series this season, Ookami-san turned out to be an “alright” anime with nothing much new or old. Though delivers a sufficient amount of comedy to half-heartedly laugh at and a plot to look into. Ookami-san appears to be the only selling point in the series due to her strong resemblance to the Palm-top Taiga in Toradora!, though that seems to be it. Animation seems to be just on average on the get go but seems quite something that could consider a little TLC, opening by May’n is as awesome as ever and the ending a ripped off 70’s game BGM of something, didn’t really like it do I usually skip it at the end to save 90-seconds worth of time in my life. If you have spare time to lol at n then internet then Ookami might be your top choice.

Occult Academy

WHEN YOU SEE IT…

Overall Occult Academy seems to be alright with it’s total understanding plot and delicious Maya Zeutai Ryouiki. I’m okay with this.

Seitokai Yakuindomo

WATCH THIS OR DIE- is all I can say at this point. OP/ED sure is addictive…

Shiki

Truth be told, I originally didn’t planned of watching this, but when I heard that this had a Higurashi/Umineko setting to the plot, I thought I’d give it shot as an excuse to watch some more etiquette compared to your usual low budger action shonen fanservice moé-blob risque anime…

After a few episodes I can say this is safe in the red for me. Had a slow and time-wasting start in my opinion but does have potential. Also kinda interested as to the mysteries display such as the mystery behind the killings of the villagers and the reason behind it. Hopefully it’ll have more of a rationable reason and ending unlike Higurashi’s fictional succubus micro organism crap…

OP is disturbing though…

Shukufuku no Campanella

PIMP. PIMP. PIMP. This anime is all too generic for me, but surprisingly I’m still able to watch it. Note that this is based off an eroge you anime denizens will have a feel to what this series will look like. Heck, the only reason why I’m watching this is because of the purple-haird loli-twins who don’t get much screen time at all. But what the hell; I’ll follow on until the end..

Strike Witches 2

YES. YES. YES. YES!!! How I’ve waited for this one to arrive. Strike Witches 2 is indeed one of my top favourites this season. Despite the first season did leave off a closed-ending feel to it as the neuroi had completely diappeared and the whole squad had disbanded because of it, the second season decided to reboot everything and have the neuroi return as strong as ever (also with laser beams that shoot the RIGHT way) and the team of underaged girls with no pants on reformed because of it! The first several episodes left a good impression on me and reminded myself of the awesomeness of Strike Witches that I had forgotten these years, and made me go through a little nostalgia as the end result. ‘Course I’ll be sticking with Strike Witches until the end of time, well until this ends at least.
