Just thought I’d like to write a post to flaunt one of my prized possessions I picked up in Japan last Summer; the coveted Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-hen – Key Animation Note book! It was only until now I decided to snap some high quality photographs™ to show off a sample of the glorious sakuga featured in this thick 300-page book of delicious art.
The book comes with a flashy metallic slip cover with an embossed illustration of a bloodied Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade lying severed on the ground.
The framed A3 poster next to the book for a size comparison.
The outer book jacket has a gorgeous metallic embossed art of a mutilated Kiss-Shot lying on the cold hard ground.
The book is chock full of key animation frames from the first installment of the Kizumonogatari movie trilogy – Tekketsu-hen – including the strikingly painterly cuts and double page spreads of the vivid 3D rendered world the movie is based in. Picking it up at the Shaft booth at Comiket 90 last summer it also came with a spiffy A3 Kizumonogatari poster now gracing my bedroom wall!
I have a respectable collection of art books I have accumulated over the years, but this animation book is the one I frequently go back to read because of how spectacular each page is, also because Kizumonogatari is a damn amazing light novel and movie trilogy. Now if only Shaft can publish the key animation note books for the second and third films…
On to the key frames!
Spoiler and Graphic Warning: Photos below contains some spoilery scenes of the first Kizumonogatari film as well as some squeamish art.
